Green Junko was the first CSR project launched through the Montgomerie Links Club Championships in 2018, raising VND 120 million to improve learning conditions for students at Junko Primary School in Quang Nam Province.
FROM A GOLF TOURNAMENT TO A JOURNEY OF GIVING BACK
At Montgomerie Links Golf Club, the annual Club Championships have always represented more than a competition among golfers. The tournament also serves as a platform where the spirit of golf is connected with a broader commitment to the community.
In 2018, that commitment took shape through Green Junko, the Club's first community project launched alongside the Club Championships. More than a fundraising initiative, Green Junko laid the foundation for Montgomerie Links' long-term approach to corporate social responsibility, a journey that continues to grow with each edition of the tournament.
"A tournament is only truly complete when the values of sport extend beyond the golf course and create a positive impact on the community."
WHEN A SCHOOL BECAME THE STARTING POINT OF OUR CSR JOURNEY
Green Junko focused its efforts on Junko Primary School in Dien Phuoc Commune, Dien Ban Town, Quang Nam Province—a school with a remarkable story that reflects the friendship between Vietnam and Japan.
The school was named after Junko Takahashi, a young Japanese woman who held a deep affection for Vietnam. After her passing at the age of twenty, her family fulfilled her wish by helping build a school for children in one of Central Vietnam's flood-prone communities. Over the years, Junko Primary School has become more than an educational institution; it stands as a symbol of compassion, cultural friendship, and the belief that education can create lasting change.
After more than two decades of operation, however, the school's facilities had gradually deteriorated while the number of students continued to increase. Recognising these challenges, Montgomerie Links selected Junko Primary School as the first destination of its community outreach programme, with the hope of creating a safer and more inspiring learning environment for local children.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS 2018 – WHEN EVERY ROUND OF GOLF CARRIED A GREATER PURPOSE
The 2018 Montgomerie Links Club Championships brought together members, golfers, business partners, and sponsors for one of the Club's signature annual events. Beyond the excitement of competition, however, the tournament carried a purpose that extended well beyond the fairways.
Through the generous support of the golfing community and the Club's valued partners, VND 120 million was successfully raised for the Green Junko project. The fundraising effort marked the beginning of Montgomerie Links' commitment to integrating community responsibility into its flagship tournament while helping improve educational opportunities for students at Junko Primary School.
GREEN JUNKO – CREATING LASTING IMPACT THROUGH THE GOLF COMMUNITY
Funds raised through Green Junko were invested in a range of practical improvements at Junko Primary School. These included installing a clean water filtration system for students and teachers, upgrading educational facilities, enhancing recreational areas, and providing scholarships for children facing financial hardship.
Every initiative was carefully planned based on the school's actual needs, with the goal of creating a more supportive and inspiring learning environment for future generations.
More importantly, Green Junko demonstrated that the true value of the project extended beyond financial contributions. It reflected the generosity of the golfing community, where every donation—regardless of its size—became part of a shared commitment to creating meaningful and lasting social impact.
